Just one hour by ferry from Livorno, city on the tyrrhenian sea, is located one of the most beautiful italian islands: the Elba island. Very popular among italians, it is still mostly unknown by foreigners, except for the many celebrities that every year enjoy playing tennis and catching the sun in the most beautiful resorts of the island. Don't be mistaken though!! The V.I.P. are just a small portion of the island's tourism and so many people visit the island just for a romantic weekend, a family trip in the nature or a party weekend on the beach with friends.
The best thing about this place is that, even though its small size, there are almost a hundred of different beaches and each one is special. Because of its vulcanic nature it's plenty of colourful sands such as the black or the red one, big white stone beaches and rocks beaches. Each one is a new adventure and the nature around it is just wonderful. There's a big mountain in the middle from which the whole island can be admired.
Some of the most beautiful beaches are still unknown to most of the tourists: Cotoncello, Forno, and Sansone, among all of them are my favorites!
A must is a stop at Club64, one of the 2 clubs f the island, situated around 4 km above the Biodola beach, where you can enjoy an open air club that offers pop and electronic music in the middle of the mediterranean flora with beautiful sea pines.
About the food, everyone has to try at least once the raw marinated in lemon juice tuna slices (carpaccio di tonno) offered in many restaurants in Portoferraio and the typical cake, schiaccia briaca (literally "drunk focaccia", a dry cake with rosins and alchermes with a red colour).
